Sierra Leone

Noreen first heard of Kenema in Sierra Leone through a friend Augustine G Bangalie (a Sierra Leonean), who was telling her about Kenema, and how the people desire to build a community hall for the local children. Many children in the area were left orphaned when their parents were killed during a decade of civil war which ended in 2002 and have no facilities for health care and social support. The community hall will be a place to provide this support to the children, which is desperately needed.

Noreen our founder, was so touched by their situation, she resolved that the GCF would help raise the £5,500 required. She felt that raising this amount of money was extremely achievable, and the effect on the children of the community would be astonishing.

The people of Kenema have already started work on the Community Hall Project, and are in the process of building the roof. Once completed it will be used to the benefit of nearly 3,500 school children at Holy Trinity schools and community in Kenema, Sierra Leone, for example as a social centre and assembly hall during the rainy season. It will also be used for other activities, such as, community workshops, parents meetings and school examinations.

It will be a fantastic facility and will have a vast positive impact on the village. It will make a difference to children of all school ages: 202 pre-school children aged between 3 - 5 years, two primary schools with 1,234 pupils between 6-11 years of age and one secondary school with 2,060 students between 12 -18 years.

The funds donated will pay for the total cost of building the hall including;

Giving even a little for Sierra Leone will make such a dramatic difference.
